HOMELESS MAN BREAKS INTO CLOSED BAR, SELLS BEER It had seemed like the shuttered Valencia Club had a new lease on life. Alcohol was flowing, and customers were crowding the bar. But detectives in Penryn, California, say the landmark business was actually being operated by a local transient, who broke into the club, re-opened it, and posed as the new owner. Investigators arrested Travis Lloyd Kevie on charges of burglary and selling alcohol without a license. According to detectives, Kevie had learned that the Valencia club lost its liquor license and shut down because he worked on the clean-up crew for the previous owner. Kevie allegedly broke into the building on July 16th, placed an open sign in the window, and started selling alcohol with a six pack of beer he purchased from across the street. His ruse was exposed when a detective recognized Kevie's picture in an article published in a newspaper about the reopening of the Valencia Club. The detective at the club and found Kevie selling alcohol to customers without a liquor license.

In a bizarre twist, the clumsy lovers were taken to the same hospital where the woman's husband was recovering from his own fall from a roof a few days earlier.
BEER USES DEAD ANIMALS The world's new strongest beer has gone on sale -- in controversial bottles made using the bodies of dead animals. Scotland-based craft brewery BrewDog's 'The End of History' beer -- which has 55% alcohol by volume and sells for $750 a bottle -- is the strongest and most expensive beer in the world. It's a blond Belgian ale infused with nettles and juniper berries to give unique taste. But it's the bottle which stands out for most people because they're encased in the bodies of animals which have been specially produced by a taxidermist. Squirrels, hares and short-tailed weasel (aka stoats) have been used, and some are dressed in eccentric outfits.
STORE OWNER BUSTED FOR NAKED MANNEQUIN What began as a complaint about an exposed mannequin in a Nebraska (Beatrice) store window is raising debate over what is considered obscene. The Beatrice police department received a complaint from a citizen about a mannequin in the window of the store who's pants had fallen down around its ankles. Police say they tried to contact the store’s owner about covering up the mannequin, but were unsuccessful. Officers then taped paper over the area of the window where the mannequin was, to cover it up. When the owner contacted officers about the issue, he claims he was informed to go to the police station, where he would be cited for disorderly conduct. At this point he contacted a lawyer, who insists that the police department broke the law in covering up the mannequin and threatened to take legal action against the city. The attorney said, "Nothing about a naked mannequin constitutes obscenity. I think we’ve all gone into a department store and seen a naked mannequin at one point in our lives. In our opinion, nothing that [my client] did was obscene or criminal in nature. Officers did conduct themselves in a criminal manner." Police have dropped all charges against the store owner, though he's not sure if he’ll be returning the favor. |
